Women protest at Court opening in Grand Bassa County, but…

Women from both Sinoe and Grand Bassa County stormed the second judicial circuit court in demand of speedy trial for the women who were reportedly tortured and stripped naked on the accusation of being a witchcraft.

Thankfully, their demand was met by the circuit court Judge Barkon that their case will start on August 13, 2019.

The women in Sinoe County were last December were stripped naked and paraded in five towns in that southeastern County and sticks were forced into their private parts. They were also burned with fire on their entire body, on orders of traditional or “country devil”. 

The matter was transferred from Sinoe County to Grand Bassa County base on change of venue filed by the prosecution or the state.

The state said if the case could remain in Sinoe County, they feel that they as state or victims may not have free, fair and impartial trial and the case may also be prejudice by community dwellers. 

In an interview with one of the survivors in Grand Bassa County where they are kept confidential said they were severely beaten by some elders of towns.

The survivor explained that sticks were used their private parts, which led them to excessively bleed saying, “I died and came back to life by the grace of God.” 

The survivor also removed clothes from her body to our report those terrible fire mark placed on them at the result burning fire set on them. 

Survivor further narrated that she was told that country devil who gave the order to maltreat them that whenever you that devil it means that you will not bear any children your life. 

Explaining in tears the survivor disclosed that her hair was painted but one of the painted hair was cut and her foot were swollen at the result of the fire where she could not easily breathe.

Meanwhile, the mother of victim who died with the three months old pregnancy said her daughter was 25 years old and she was her last born out of three children and was also staying with her because of their closeness. 

The deceased mother further added that when the incident occurred she was not to her and in fact she was in the state of confusion because it was her first time of witness such unwholesome act and can still image on that faithful day of December 31,2019.

According to deceased mother,  those who committed such unimaginable behavior has been telling that nothing will come from the brutal killing of her daughter because she does not has money and she is poor woman so she only wasting her time. 

The deceased mother added that since the torturing and murdering of her daughter she nearly died from the wacky behavior carried out against her daughter.

Besides, community dwellers are who comforting her are in the position of insulting her putting their people in jail but since her arrival in Grand Bassa County she more relax as compare to Sinoe County because she usually can be abused on daily by community dwellers and passerby.
