Two persons Saturday reportedly died in a road accident involving a truck and a motorcycle.
The accident occurred near the Double Bridge along the Japan Freeway formerly known as Somalia Drive on the outskirts of Monrovia.
Eyewitnesses explained that the truck had missed several cars before running into the bike which had in total three riders, two of whom reportedly died while the other was critically injured.
It remains unclear whether the truck in question had brake failure or that its operator lost control of the steering.
The driver is said to have fled the scene in the aftermath of the crash, abandoning his vehicle on the road.
A similar accident occurred on November 23, 2020, on the same route, this time involving a bus and a motorcycle which led to the burning of the bus, after its driver accidentally hit and killed a cyclist. Cyclists claim bus drivers often intentionally target them.
Angry bus operators responded then by burning 4 motorcycles and arming themselves with sticks to strike at any motorcycle that ventured on the route.
That violent incident prompted police to introduce new measures under which commercial motorcycle operators were restricted to certain feeder roads; an order that so far remains largely ignored by bike operators.
