26-year-old Murder Suspect pleads guilty before a Judge in Lofa, Liberia

Voinjama, Liberia- A 36 year old defendant in a murder case has pleaded guilty at the 10th Judicial Circuit court in Voinjama, Lofa County presided over by Judge Nancy Sammy.

Voinjama is in northwestern Liberia and it is situated 387 kilometers from Monrovia.

Defendant Karleu Kamara was arrested on July 4th 2018 in Kailahun town after he allegedly stabbed his brother identified as Sammie Kamara with a knife in Walamia.

According to the police charge sheet, defendant Karleu Kamara and his brother were both involved in a fist fight around 6am on the 4th of July in Walamia.

A testimony from Wanlamia town Chief Morris S. Kamara said the deceased Sammie Kamara during the fist fight wounded his brother Karleu Kamara which aggravated him.

Town Chief Moses Kamara disclosed that he and other youths of the town quickly intervened at the time to calm the situation.

According to him, he later ordered the youths to put a cuff on Sammie Kamara’s foot on grounds that he Sammie wounded his brother, Karleu during the face fight.

While Sammie Kamara was already foot cuff, Chief Kamara said as the chief quickly left for prayer at the mosque with the intention of amicably resolving the conflict between the two brothers after the early Morning Prayer.

The Town Chief further disclosed that it was during that time that the defendant Karleu Kamara took a knife, rush to his brother who was still being foot cuff and stabbed him several times and escaped from the town.

He said it was when he asked the youths of the town to go after the defendant who was later arrested in Kailahun town and turned over to the police.

The defendant however pleaded guilty after the reading of his indictment in open court.

Our correspondent said the defendant is currently being tried at the 10th judicial circuit court in Voinjama after which he will be sentenced
