As part of ongoing efforts to improving Liberia’s southeastern Grand Kru County School System, authorities at the Barclayville Central High School have disqualified at least 27 senior students from sitting the pending West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
The Principal of the School Melvin Young said the students were disqualified due to poor academic performance.
”The performance of the students has been dismal, rendering them unfit to sit the exams, despite parents being informed earlier about the poor performance of their children, no improvement was seen in their academic work,” Mr. Young said.
According to him, for the past six years senior students within the have dismally performed in public examines, which he said is a serious embarrassment for the county school system.
Mr. Young asserted that the latest action by the school administration is also intended to strengthen senior students’ performances in the upcoming WASSCE.
The principal indicated that the students have been issued letter of academic leave, which will see them repeating in the next academic year.
Mr. Young also expressed disappointment in the student parent’s for their continue failure to attend call meetings to jointly discuss on the students’ performance and the growth and development of the learning institution.
“Before taking the drastic administrative action it was announced on the three media institutions in the county, but parents of students deliberately refused to attend the called meeting on several occasions, Principal Marvine Young said.
Speaking to Journalists several, some citizens and local county authorities have applauded the Barclayville Central High school administration for the positive step taken.
This, they said would make junior and senior students to take their lessons seriously, so as to restore the public confidence in the Grand Kru educational sector.
Meanwhile, due to the massive failure of students over the last six decades couple with lack of sciences teachers at the four senior high schools has resulted to students leaving the county for Maryland, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe and Monterrado counties for quality education.
