5 health workers sent to court for alleged theft in Maryland County

-Over 30 cartoons of malnutrition peanut smuggled out of the hospital compound in an Ambulance

Five health workers at the J.J. Dossen hospital in Liberia’s southeastern Maryland County have been arrested and sent to court for allegedly stealing thirty-four cartoons of peanut better meant for malnourished persons.

The five health workers were arrested late Tuesday evening in the County’s capital, Harper.

According to the report, the five health workers allegedly stole the thirty-four cartoons of the malnutrion peanut butter from the hospital compound, using the ambulance in the name of transporting drugs to an unknown destination, when the County Health officer along with police officers got tip up from some community members.

Those arrested are identified as Anthony G. Elliott, member of the Health team who was found with Seventeen cartoons of the peanut butter in his home; Audrey Cole Nutrition, Supervisor; Mr. P. Yowah Johnson chief security; Mr. George Donkey county pharmacy and Richard Geah ambulance driver.

The thirty-four cartoons of malnutrition peanut butter is said to be valued at USD$3,000,612 or the equivalent of 360 thousand Liberian dollars.
 
Report from the area says that one of the suspects, Mr. Anthony G. Elliot had on several accused on several occasions of stealing drugs thus, causing shortage of drugs.
