Big boost for Alfalit Adult Literacy Program in Liberia

-Receives Over 48, 000 Books

Monrovia-Alfalit Liberia has received a huge consignment of books from its Mother Organization, Alfalit International based in Miami, Florida USA as part of efforts to boost its adult literacy program this 2019 across its 5 literacy counties.

The books, which arrived early this March and offloaded on Monday, March 4, 2019, comprise of different categories of literacy books for adult learners and teachers within the program, according to an Alfalit press statement issued in Monrovia on Wednesday.

The consignment includes Literacy Reading Book 1, 2, 3 and 4, writing books 1, to 4. Teachers’ evaluation,totaling forty eight thousand, two hundred and fifty pieces of books (48, 250) to be used this year to enhance the adult literacy program.

The books are produced and published by Alfalit International in conjunction with the Liberia’s team.

According to Mr. Jerome Williams, National Supervisor for Literacy, Basic Education and the Job Skills Program; the availability of the new books will further strengthen the program in Liberia and boost students’ performance as well as lead to effective lessons presentation by the facilitators (teachers) including enabling the teachers to properly monitor and evaluate the beneficiaries in the 3 programs.

Each year, Alfalit Liberia receives books and other literacy materials from Alfalit International for its operations and distributes to beneficiaries of the literacy and basic education program without cost attached for the past 13 years stressing that the only requirement from the beneficiaries by Alfalit Liberia has been “the students seriousness and making the most use of the opportunity and materials provided them”.

He went on to say that “the good thing about the Alfalit books is that it has basic features that make learning easy for the students who are benefiting from the program”.

Mr. Williams furthered by saying “the new consignment will greatly help Alfalit Liberia meets her goals for the ongoing recruitment process which is hoping to enroll over 4,000  learners this 2019 circle of the literacy program”

The Alfalit National Supervisor for Literacy indicated that Alfalit Liberia hopes to reach all of Liberia’s 15 counties when they receive the needed support to expand the program as the program is currently impacting Liberians in five of the 15 counties.

Alfalit Liberia, founded in 2006 is an Affiliate of Alfalit International based in Miami, Florida USA. It’s a faith-based Christian origination that teaches illiterate youths and adults who missed out on the basic education teaching them to read, write and do simple arithmetic. The mission of Alfalit is “to eradicate human suffering caused by illiteracy”.    

Alfalit Liberia currently operates 52 literacy centers benefiting over 3 thousand adult learners and 201 teachers in Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bong, Bomi and Margibi Counties.
