6 Police Officers Being Probed For Allegedly Brutalizing A Woman

VOINJAMA, Liberia- Six officers of the Liberia National Police assigned in Kolahun, northwestern Lofa County are currently undergoing investigations for allegedly brutalizing a – year old woman identified as Jenneh Ndebeh.

The officers include, Insp. Christian Taylor district commander, Sgt. Peter Beyan deputy commander, Jacob F. Fomba and Andrew H. Tamba.

Others are Frank Williams and Francis Somah.

The commander of the Professional Standard Division of the Liberia National Police, Rufus Chea said the incident occurred in Wohomba town, Kolahun District, after the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman believed to be in her 80s on a farm belonging to the victim.

According to the son of the woman, his mother was beaten by the officers while being investigated.

The act by the six officers continued to receive huge condemnations from all sectors across the county with a called for speedy investigation into the matter and subsequent punishment for those involved.

On September 6, 2020, a woman identified as Weendor Mengai of Ndywolahun town went missing but was later discovered dead more than a week after.

The woman believed to be in her 80s was discovered following a massive search by citizens of the area in collaboration with the joint security forces.

The traditional leaders, following their inclusion, disclosed that the missing woman could be discovered but did not say whether dead or alive.

They later discovered the lifeless body of the elderly woman between two mountains in a swamp.

Following the recovery of the old lady’s corpse by the traditionalists, a 15-man jury was setup by the police to examine the body.

Ten of the 15 jurors said there was no foul play in the woman’s death, while the other five reported that there was foul play on grounds that they discovered a deep cut under her breast and under her private part as well.

Despite the divided findings from the 15-man jury, the body of the deceased was on September 22 buried, as investigations continue.
