But Hillary Wleh Gray Dismisses Claims That His Move Is Linked To Political Ambitions For 2029 Election
GRAND KRU COUNTY, Liberia- A native of this southeastern, Hillary Wleh Gray has told locals that he has invested US$200,000 in yellow machines (heavy-duty equipment) to improve road conditions and access to clean water in Electoral District #2, citing years of neglect by elected officials.
Mr. Gray, who hails from Bolloh-Po in Dorbor District, is said to have purchased an excavator and a bulldozer in Dubai at US$100,000 each. The yellow machines were shipped through the Freeport of Monrovia, with additional shipping and clearance costs. The equipment is expected to arrive in Grand Kru within days.
He said his decision was motivated by the suffering of farmers and traders due to poor roads. Gray, who operates Dorbor Mining Incorporated, noted that he began mining in the county in January 2025 and chose to reinvest in the same communities that supported him.
In addition to road works, Mr. Gray has launched water projects in the district. Eight hand pumps have already been installed in Bolloh-Po, while five more are under construction in Bolloh Kaypo.
He emphasized that access to clean water is essential for public health and dignity.
The native of Grand Kru County has meanwhile, dismissed claims that his actions are linked to political ambitions for the 2029 elections, saying his focus is solely on improving living conditions for his people.
He criticized current and former lawmakers for abandoning constituents after elections and also faulted former President George Weah for failing to prioritize road development in Grand Kru during his tenure.
At the same time, Mr. Gray has pledged to continue supporting Electoral District #2 and described the initiative as a long-term commitment. Residents have praised the move as a rare example of private citizens in addressing development gaps left by government, and preparations are underway to welcome the arrival of the machines in the county.
