HARPER ,Liberia- A Liberian Base in Virginia, United States of America has donated 42 forty two bags of 25kg rice and 84 bottles of one liter cooking oil to forty two( 42) Vulnerable men and women from seven communities within the capital city of the southeastern Maryland County.
Presenting the Food items for and on behalf of Mrs. Albertine Tubman, Maryland County Health Officer, Dr. Methodius George said when the pandemic outbreak in Liberia and Maryland, he communicated with some Friends out of Liberia to help old and vulnerable People in Maryland County, especially Harper District with something. He said Madam Tubman, being an humanitarian, told him that she will contribute to such initiative.
Madam Albertine Tubman, a Liberian Professional Nurse and Marylander based in Virginia, the United States was really concerned about the vulnerable and old folks in Harper District, Maryland County during the time of the Coronavirus Pandemic, Dr. George said.
“Couple of days ago I received Nine Hundred United Dollars from Madam Albertine Tubman from Virginia USA and I told her that we can buy rice and oil so we can give it to old people, who are physically challenge and Widow, she immediately agreed and accepted the idea. I bought rice and oil and will be distributed today among you,“ he said.
According to Dr. George, those selected came from various communities in Harper City and they are about forty two (42) persons and were giving one bag of 25kg rice and 2 Bottles of Oil to each of the forty two (42) beneficiaries.
“We actually selected some of the old and vulnerable People who are finding it hard and difficult to get daily meal to benefit from this donation,” the Maryland County Health Officer said.
Dr. George clarified that the selection of these old and vulnerable people was not done by him, but rather people were sent into various Community to do the selection. They came up with 42 persons as beneficiaries. “And people that were given the food items to I don’t know them and I did not do pick and choose,” he explained.
In an interview with www.newspublictrust.com , Dr. George said the old and vulnerable were selected from seven Communities in Harper City, which include, Hoffman Station, Wahodo Town, Big Town, New Kru Town, Hance Street, Airfield and Stadium Road. .
“We cannot give everybody in Harper, so we selected these few person they are forty two and each person will be giving a bag of 25kg Rice and two bottles of 1 liter of oil,” Dr. George noted.
The Presentation was held on the Main Compound of the James Jenkins Dossen Referral Hospital and all forty two selected beneficiaries from their various communities were served.
For their part, the recipients of the US$900 consignment of rice and oil extended heartfelt thanks and appreciation Madam Tubman for her kind and timely gesture during this time of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“We were finding it very difficult to feed ourselves and our families, especially this time were everything is hard because of COVID-19 and we pray that God will continue to bless and Protect you and your entire family,“ one of the beneficiaries said
The beneficiaries also thanked the Maryland County Health Officer for creating the avenue for them to have received the donation from Madam Tubman.
