TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia– A quarrel over a small sum of money turned deadly in Rock Valley in the suburb of Congo Town, when 41-year-old Marsco Weah allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Mary Sirleaf, resulting in her death. Weah has been formally charged with manslaughter under Liberian law, as Garmah Never Lomo reports.
Police reports indicate that on November 27, 2025, Weah, who had received US$20 from his uncle earlier that day, returned to his one-bedroom home where an argument with Sirleaf escalated into a violent confrontation.
Authorities say Weah stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a black-handled kitchen knife, leaving her unconscious. She later died at Benson Hospital.
Investigators detailed that the victim sustained defensive wounds to her left palm and bite marks on her left arm, suggesting a struggle over the knife. Witnesses corroborated that repeated confrontations and threats occurred throughout the day prior to the fatal incident.
Det. Sgt. George K. Quoi of the Liberia National Police Crime Services Division confirmed that Weah was arrested immediately and informed of his Miranda rights. Police collected statements and forensic evidence, which supported the charges under Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Section 14.2 of the Revised Penal Code of Liberia.
The Liberia National Police emphasized the tragic nature of the incident, noting that the dispute over a mere $20 ended in a preventable death. Weah remains in custody as the investigation continues, and the case is pending prosecution in the Monrovia court system.
This incident has sparked renewed concern over domestic disputes and the urgent need for conflict resolution and awareness programs within communities.
