Ahead Of Tuesday’s Meeting, ECOWAS Parliamentarians Arrive In Liberia

Delegates have begun arriving in Monrovia ahead of the pending ECOWAS delocalized Parliamentary meeting which opens Tuesday April 13, 2021 and runs through the 17th.

It is expected to discuss the empowerment of women in the sub region, the visibility of ECOWAS among other topics.

According to the head of Liberia’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe, ECOWAS wants the Foreign Affairs Ministry to provide its usual protocol services and official guest vehicles.

Senator Snowe said 75 parliamentarians are expected to participate in the event.

He has thanked the regional body for designating Liberia to host this edition of the annual event.

The last time Liberia hosted an ECOWAS meeting of such nature was in 2017, during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; the first of a series of important ECOWAS meetings, ahead of the 51 Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Community, on 4 June 2017.

They included the meeting of the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Institutional Reform on 29 and 30 May 2017, followed by the Mediation and Security Council on 31 May 2017, and the 78  Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, on 1 and 2 June 2017.
