KAKATA, Liberia–A tragic case originating near the Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Lower Margibi County has taken a critical legal turn, as police have completed their investigation and forwarded a man to court on murder charges.

The case centers on Lester Langar, a 30-year-old man, who was arrested in Nimba County on Tuesday, January 26, 2026. The arrest followed an investigation into the death of his young daughter, Zander Langar.

According to a police release, Langar was arrested by local authorities in Nimba before being transferred to the Liberia National Police here in Kakata.

He was then handed over to the Crime Services Division (CSD) to face questioning.

Accused gives account of events

Police report said upon his arrest, Langar was informed of his constitutional rights, which he voluntarily waived. In a subsequent statement to investigators, he presented a narrative of medical tragedy and desperation.

Mr. Langar claimed that his daughter, Zander, fell ill while under his care and subsequently died. Faced with the crisis, he allegedly contacted a friend identified only as “Lawrence” for help. However, Lawrence reportedly declined to visit or offer any assistance.

Leaving with what he described as no alternative, Langar told police he abandoned his daughter’s body in an unfinished building. He then fled to Ganta City in Nimba County, where he was later located and taken into custody.

From Investigation to Court

The police investigation, which considered the accused’s statement and other gathered evidence, has concluded with a decision to press charge. Based on the findings, Lester Langar was formally charged with the crime of murder.

The case file has now been forwarded from the Liberia National Police to the judicial system for prosecution. The court will be tasked with examining the evidence, including Langar’s claim of his daughter’s death by illness, to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

Well, residents in community near RIA in Lower Margibi County and Kakata city now await further developments as the legal process formally begins.
