A veteran Educator and the Proprietress of the International Learning Institute (ILI) has cautioned Liberians youths against the danger of using illegal substances (narcotic drugs), because they have the propensity to impede their roles as future leaders.

Mrs. Mildred Dean said the high rate of drug abuse among young people in the country is scaring and something must be done to curb this menace.

Mrs. Dean made the assertion in Monrovia recently, when she delivered the keynote speech at the program marking the induction of the newly elected leader of the Greater Monrovia Omega Leo Club in Congo Town during the weekend.

“I have seen a great number of our youths subjected themselves to abuse of banned substances of all sorts, losing and damaging the talents and future by their habits,” she said; adding: “we cannot allow the habits of drug abuse to continue to damage our children.”

“Every single day, there is youth somewhere subjecting him or herself to dangerous drugs and some are out of their minds,” Mrs. Dean noted.

In his induction speech, the newly inducted President of the Greater Monrovia Omega Leo Club, Emmanuel Doe observed that there is leadership gap in the communities when it comes to helping the needy

He stressed the need for young people to fill the leadership vacuum prevailing in their communities by addressing the problems of the sick, the orphans and the hungry

Mr. Doe said Liberia is in dying need of young leaders who will fill the gaps that will be created as a result of the present generation.

Others inducted are Duke McIntosh, Vice President; Clarence Oray-Worjolah, Secretary; Faith Gray, Treasurer, among others.
