-RMNCAH reassures Government and Partners of free treatment

The Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Foundation, (RMNCAH) has reassured the Liberian government and partners that they are committed to ensuring that all women coming down with fistula receive free treatment in the country.

The foundation has especially lauded the Health Ministry’s complementary role under the project.

RMNCAH Foundation gave the assurance after successfully concluding its first Fistula case management campaign targeting four women at the C B Dunbar Hospital in Gbarnga.

Not all of the survivors have been treated: three of them have existing malnutrition conditions that has necessitated the postponement as they undergo special dietary regimes to regain weight, it has revealed.

According to the Director of the Foundation, Dr. Nyanquoi Kargbo, one of the three whose cases differ, with anaemic and weight loss condition, was raped at ten.

The next campaign has been scheduled for November this year at which time the three survivors would have regained enough weight and blood to be fit for the surgery.

The unfolding Fistula Surgical campaign is funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through Liberia Prevention of Maternal Mortality (LPMM).

Statistics on Liberia’s maternal and new-born child and adolescent health are grim. This project is therefore intended to bolster the effort of government in ameliorating the alarming trend.

A team of medical doctors led by Dr. John K. Mulbah is performing the fistula surgery that is restoring the dignity of the victimized women, according to a press release.
