The plight of 6,000 Liberian Refugees in the United States has not got better, as they are yet to get work permits, says Pastor Torli Krua of the Boston-based Universal Human Rights International (UHRI).

This rights advocate and the UHRI have intensified their lobbying efforts to get the attention of American Congressmen.

In letters and statements widely circulated, the rights advocate said:  “We need just one member of Congress to sponsor a “Dear Colleague” letter like the letter attached to get the ball rolling.”

Pastor Krua described the situation with the Liberian refugees as a humanitarian crisis.

“Ending this humanitarian crisis in America during a pandemic takes only one member of Congress. We will rally, work and organize to get the attached supporters of the Liberian cause in the past to sign on,” he said.

According to him, “the humanitarian crisis ravaging the lives of Liberian Refugees” in the US, comes after the American Congress passed the sweeping Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act.

Pastor Krua said this situation is happening after President Joe Biden signed and appropriated $6.3 billion dollars to resettle Afghans in America.

He said the Liberians in question are in the United States and “First come first serve” .

The UHRI executive spoke of the urgent need for the US President to renew DED work permits for Liberian refugees, which he says demand urgent action.
