Brownie Samukai’s Attempt To Stop Judge Gbeisay’s Confirmation As Associate Justice Fails

Despite a frantic campaign to convince the Liberian Senate to reject the nomination of Circuit Court Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, the Senate has confirmed Judge Gbeisay as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Judge was nominated by President George M. Weah on September 7,2022 and confirmed by the Senate this week.

Judge Gbeisay was drilled through numerous questions by the Liberian senate on Monday October 24,2022 and he was confirmed based on majority votes of the Liberian senate.

President Weah made nominated of Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay Sr. on September 7,2022 as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

During the nomination process, former Defense Ministry Brownie J. Samukai went on a media campaign to urge the Senators not to confirm Judge Gbeisay due to his alleged unethical acts as a Judge, claiming that the Judge cooked up evidence against him to convict him for corruption.

Judge Gbeisay was appointed along with Mrs. Sarah B. Fyneah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Liberia to the United Nations and all its organs, and with non-resident concurrent accreditation to Brazil and Cuba.

Judge Gbeisay qualified with long experience

However, Judge Yarmie Gbeisay is a qualified jurist who had practiced law for over two decades.

He is a1998 graduate of Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia, who has been a Counsellor-At-Law since 2002.

September 24 this year will made it seven years since Judge Gbeisay was appointed judge, making it 24 years since he has been in the legal practice.

Judge Gbeisay is Married to Mrs. Mickey R. T. Gbeisay with seven children.
