During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the Center’s pioneering efforts in the field of mental health in Liberia.

President Boakai acknowledged Carter Center’s significant contributions in supporting the Government of Liberia to strengthen mental health services, build local capacity, and reduce stigma through training programs for mental health clinicians and community outreach.

The Liberian Chief Executive noted the importance of sustaining and expanding mental health care across the nation and pledged his Administration’s full support to initiatives that improve the well-being of all Liberians.

Mr. Joshua Carter, for his part, reaffirmed Carter Center’s dedication to deepening its collaboration with Liberia. Carter Center has been operational in Liberia since the mid-1990s, playing a critical role in election observation, civic education, access to justice, and combating some classes of tropical diseases. Its Mental Health Program, launched in 2010, has trained hundreds of mental health clinicians and remains a cornerstone of its support to Liberia’s public health system.
