Liberian Information Minister, Ledgerhood Rennie says it is unfair that the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) leader, Alexander Cummings of the CPP has begun blaming the CDC-led government for the political wrangling and rigmarole within their coalition.
He said it is hard to imagine that people fighting for a single leadership of the country would resort to telling lies to the public. Rennie was addressing a regular MICAT press briefing earlier in the week in Monrovia
Mr. Cummings appeared twice at the Monrovia City Court this week to answer to his charges levied against by opposition leader of the All Liberian Party’s leader, Benoni Urey on whose behalf the court issued a writ of arrest on Mr. Cummings early morning on January 3, 2021 for alleged tempering with their CPP Framework documents.
He is charged with forgery and criminal conspiracy. The long-running feud in the fractured opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) over allegation of tampering with the framework document of the group has gone one step further with this latest court action.
This latest legal action is coming at a time when the former ruling Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer, former Vice President Joseph Boakai is currently heading the CPP, which is on the verge of collapsing.
Information Minister Rennie said it is unimaginable that such lies, including insinuations that the government is bent on undermining the political marriage of the CPP will be coming from the party’s leadership.
He said what the people need to understand is that in our political history, never before has the opposition formed a united front in elections, stay together and succeed.
“From time immemorial they come together, when they lose the election they criticize the government,” the minister said. It was the government that forge the document which was not part of the arrangement which is now in court”?
The Liberian Information Minister also said that instead of playing the blame game, let the CPP deals directly with the problem they are confronted with.
Mass resignations at Urey’s ALP
Meanwhile, Several county chairpersons and Executives of the All Liberian People’s Party on during the week resigned from the party, blaming its political leader Benoni Urey of bad leadership. Those that resigned include the chapter heads of Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, Grand Bassa, Lofa and Margibi counties, among others.
The action comes days following the filing of a criminal lawsuit against the current chairman of the CPP, current Alternative National Congress (ANC) leader Alexander Cummings. The ALP and ANC are both constituent members of the CPP.
Those that resigned said in a joint statement that Urey has been mismanaging the party, ill-treating and disregarding party leaders.
He said Mr. Urey never upheld the spirit of the CPP and respect for party ALP leaders. “Many officials have been mistreated, and this brings us to the end of the road”.
