MENLA, NIMBA, Liberia- The Officer-In-Charge at the Menla Clinic in District #9 in the northeastern Nimba County, Elijah Tomah has disclosed that a project is underway to extend the Menla Clinic building.
Speaking to Reporters, Mr. Tomah, said the new building is about ten rooms intended to accommodate everyone and to ensure privacy during treatment of patients.
The growth in the population in this area has created the need for the extension of the clinic, which is visited daily by many patience from various parts.
He said the present building in use as clinic is congested and lacks proper space to care for the huge number of patients visiting the facility regularly.
The old structure
According to Mr. Tomah, the Menla Clinic is a two-room clinic which he said is not adequate.
He observed that there is no privacy at the clinic due to lack of rooms, adding that patients need privacy especially pregnant women during delivery.
Menla Town is one of the populated towns in district #9 Nimba County faces serious challenge with the only health facility that care to inhabitants in five towns. The facility is one of the oldest with no improvement from the national government. The clinic according to report was built in the early 80s when the population of the town was not much as compare to now. At the facility, pregnant women, newly delivered women and other patients do everything without privacy, thereby making women vulnerable to exposure.
The Officer-In-Charge of the clinic is calling on humanitarian organizations to help the clinic with the construction of the annex or contribute financially and in kind to the ongoing community self-initiative project, in order to provide additional rooms for the clinic.
Meanwhile, Mr. Elijah Tomah has applauded the Bility Development Foundation for the rehabilitation of the Gbanquoi-Garwonpa road.
He said the initiative is a relief to health delivery and means to providing better living for the people in that part of Nimba. The Gbanquoi-Garwonpa corridor connects Fleedin, Menla, to Zekepa. He said the Foundation has promised to connect the road to Menla.
