Cllr. Nwabudike named head of Special Presidential probe on Global Witness Report

A Liberian lawyer in active practice, Cllr, Ndubuisi Nwabudike has been named by President George Manneh Weah to head a five-member Special Presidential Committee to examine the allegations made by Global Witness in its most recent reports on Liberia, involving the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL).

Cllr. Ndubuisi’s appointment was announced this week in an Executive Mansion press release.

He has served with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) since 2008. He received his LL.B. from the University of Liberia, and an LL.M. from Loyola University’s Rome Campus. A’nudubuisi has twenty years of experience in public policy planning and analysis.

The head of the Special Presidential Committee has worked extensively in legal and judicial system reform programs at the United Nations.

A’ndubuisi has a background in rule of law and security sector needs assessment, intervention project design and implementation, rule of law projects monitoring and evaluation, project impact analysis and reporting, and gender and human rights programming.

Global Witness investigation linked some past and present government officials to alleged corruption in the awarding of Oil Block 13 during the immediate past administration.

  4. Mrs. Frances Greeves    –Member

The Special Presidential   Committee has two weeks to submit initial reports of its findings and make recommendations, accordingly.

All those directly or indirectly named in the Global Witness report are strongly advised to make themselves available and to cooperate with the Committee.

All public and private institutions, organizations and individuals who may have information relevant to these investigations are encouraged to promptly make such information available to the committee.

Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musah Dean was initially named to head the special inquest, but he immediately recused himself from the probe because he was previously headed NOCAL.

Meanwhile, President Weah has made additional appointments in his nearly three-month-old government.

President George Manneh Weah has made additional nominations and appointments constituting the Boards of several Agencies of Government affecting the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, National Port Authority, Liberia Electricity Corporation, and the Central Bank of Liberia.

The President also made additional appointments at the Liberia Water & Sewer Corporation and the Township of Clara Town.
