Monrovia, Liberia –Preparations are underway for an auspicious event at which renowned human rights advocate and lawyer, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe will reply to Team Gongloe’s petition to contest for the Office of President of Liberia in 2023, a press release from “Team Gongloe” has said.
A release from the group says the important activity will occur in Ganta in Nimba County on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
According to the Team’s Chairman, Cllr. Jimmy Saah Bombo, Cllr. Gongloe’s virtues of integrity, honesty, accountability and transparency which have been the bedrock of his 33 years of public service will form the cornerstones of his administration to transform Liberia based on the rule of law if elected President. Jimmy assured the public that Tiawan will not compromise the interest of the country as others have done and do today. He stressed: “Tiawan will not collaborate with known gangs, thieves and corrupt people because he cannot afford to montage Liberia’s presence and future as others have done.”
The erudite lawyer attained feats beneficial to Liberia. As Solicitor-General, among other noticeable accomplishments, he ensured that his colleagues got periodic training that enabled them to cope with time, speed and technology that the law practice demanded. Then, as Minister of Labor, he was relentless in putting to work the “Liberianization Policy” his predecessors made quiescent to the disadvantage of Liberia and Liberians. Overall, Tiawan’s stance on the rule of law is unequivocal. His uncompromising position on the issue of justice for individuals/the state has made him participate in efforts of civil society groups that petitioned the Legislature to establish Economic & War Crimes Court in Liberia in fulfilment of the recommendations tenets of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Tiawan is humble and handy. He provides pro-bono legal services to indigenes such as journalists, student rights activists, and civil society and human rights campaigners. Thus, he is nicknamed “Poor-man’s Lawyer.” Then, particularly, Maryland County calls him, “Waamu” – meaning ‘Bless us”; Grand Gedeh County, “Poleeyon” – connoting ‘Savior or Liberator’; and Bong County, “Nephew”.
