GBARNGA, Liberia- As the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Bong County continues, the administration of the largest referral hospital in Liberia, Phebe Hospital and its School of Nursing have ended three days of training for clinical staff at this facility.

Lead Facilitator, Dr. Philip A. Mandy said the training is meant to get clinical staff prepared to properly handle people diagnosed with the disease in the County.

He added that it also “focused on two thematic areas including Infection, Prevention and Control method (IPC) and Clinical Management. The IPC method helps to prevent health workers from contracting infectious diseases from those carrying them”, Dr. Mandy told journalists.

The training, which was organized and sponsored by the hospital, brought together several clinical staff members.

Dr. Mandy admonished participants to put into use the knowledge acquired from the three day exercise, saying similar one will be conducted for all health workers at the hospital soon.

He used the occasion to call on citizens and residents of the county to adhere to all prescribed health protocols in order to keep the area safe from the deadly outbreak.

Despite numerous challenges facing various health institutions in the county, Mandy believes that they can defeat the killer disease through togetherness.

When it comes to exposure to the disease, Bong County stands in a precarious position, sharing borders with Nimba, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Lofa Counties, which have all recorded confirmed COVID-19 cases.
