Monrovia, Liberia – Some end may be in sight to the prolonged unrest at the state owned Tubman University (TU) in Liberia’s southeastern Maryland County, with the resignation of its President, Dr. D. Elliott Wreh-Wilson, something that has been one of the demands of the striking faculty.

An Executive Mansion press release over the weekend said President George Manneh Weah has appointed Dr. Emmanuel Leon Sie-Wreh as Acting President of Tubman University, pending the vetting of candidates by the Board of Trustees for subsequent appointment of a new President of Tubman University.

The Liberian leader made the appointment after he received and accepted the resignation of Dr. Wreh-Wilson, who was appointed President of TU in the port city of Harper four years ago.

In his resignation letter, Dr. D. Elliott Wreh-Wilson thanked President Weah for the opportunity given him to serve Tubman University. According to Dr. Wreh-Wilson, it was indeed a great privilege and an honor for a man born in Maryland County, of parents from Picnic-Cess, Grand Kru County to serve the student constituency in his county of birth, the press release said.

Dr. Wreh-Wilson stated that he was constrained to resign because he does not view violence as a means of order, following adversity after adversity on the campus of Tubman University.

President Weah extends his thanks and appreciation to Dr. D. Elliott Wreh-Wilson for his dedicated and compassionate services rendered to Tubman University and the Country.

The Liberian leader wishes Dr. Wreh-Wilson well in his future endeavors and hopes he remains available to serve his Country in any other capacity, futuristically.
