What is seen as another long-drawn-out legal tussle began today, Friday, April 17, 2026 with the House of Representatives going ahead with probing of controversial Montserrado County District #1 Representative, Yekeh Y. Kolubah, despite an earlier stay order on proceedings ruled by Supreme Court of Liberia Chamber Justice, Yusif Kaba.
Posts on the House of Representatives official Facebook page confirms that Rep. Kolubah has been expelled.
Despite the stay order prayed for by Rep. Kolubah’s lawyers headed by former Supreme Court Associate Justice, Kabina Janeh and prohibition issued, Lawmakers in the lower House this morning went ahead to issue a resolution expelling the Montserrado County District #10 Rep. during the ongoing special session at the Capitol Building.

The ten-day special session was called by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai recently primarily requesting urgent recall of the lawmakers for the passage of a US$45 million supplementary budget and printing of additional Liberian dollar banknotes.
Reports say 49 members of the 73-member House signed the expulsion resolution based on a recommendation presented to plenary during Friday’s sitting. The lawmakers had earlier received the Kolubah expulsion investigation committee’s report.
Meanwhile, reports say that the Office of the House Chief Clerk has denied claims that the Supreme Court of Liberia had issued a communication instructing the Legislature to halt the proceedings.
Rep. Kolubah enraged some of his colleagues recently after reportedly saying on a local media channel that the disputed border town in Liberia’s Lofa County occupied by some Guinean soldiers actually belongs to neighbouring Guinea.
Last years, there were months of legal battle at the Supreme Court over move by one faction in the House of Representatives to remove former House Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa and the other faction who opposed his removal.
