By Casting Their Votes In The Nov. 14 Presidential Runoff Election
Statement by the Spokesperson on the run-off presidential elections
After a largely peaceful 20-days run-off campaign, the people of Liberia confirmed their strong commitment to democracy by casting their votes in a calm and peaceful manner to elect their President for the next six years.
The National Elections Commission efficiently managed the first post-conflict general elections solely organised by the Liberian institutions since the end of the civil war in 2003.
Following an invitation from the Government of Liberia, the EU deployed an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) throughout the country. The Mission has now published its preliminary statement, in which it observes that the run-off elections were largely calm and well organised.
The EU looks forward to the announcement of the final results, and expects the completion of the electoral process to be peaceful and in full respect of the established legal procedures.
The EU EOM will remain in Liberia until the end of the electoral period and will then publish a final report and recommendations for improvements of the electoral framework.
