The long-awaited Liberia Kickball Federation Montserrado County Inter-District League is set to officially kicked over the weekend at the Jacob Town Sports Pitch in District #2, Montserrado County.
The opening ceremony will mark the inaugural edition of the competition in Montserrado County, bringing together kickball teams representing districts from across the county.
Speaking via mobile phone, Mr. Lamie Kamara, Chairman of the 2026 Montserrado County Inter-District League, said preparations are still ongoing for the historic competition. He disclosed that 14 of Montserrado County’s 17 electoral districts successfully completed registration for the tournament.
Mr. Kamara thanked the Liberia Kickball Federation for the initiative and praised district coordinators, lawmakers, and sponsors for their prompt response and support in making the competition possible on short notice.
He explained that the tournament will be played at several designated venues across Montserrado County, including the Jacob Town Sports Pitch, Tusa Field Sports Stadium in Gardnersville, and the SKD Public Practice (PP) in Paynesville, among others.
The districts confirmed for participation are Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, and 17.
Meanwhile, Districts 4, 13, and 14 will not participate in this year’s competition due to their inability to complete registration and meet the required US$200 registration fee within the stipulated timeframe.
Saturday’s Opening Fixtures
The opening day was scheduled for the Jacob Town Sports Pitch, beginning at 2:00 PM.
2:00 PM: District #11 vs. District #8 — Opening Match
3:20 PM: District #6 vs. District #10
4:40 PM: District #2 vs. District #5 —
Final Match of the Day
The host district, District #2, will feature in the final match of the opening day.
Sunday’s Fixtures
Match Day One will continue on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the same Jacob Town venue.
2:00 PM: District #16 vs. District #17
3:20 PM: District #12 vs. District #7
4:40 PM: District #3 vs. District #9
The District #3 versus District #9 encounter will serve as the final match of the weekend’s opening fixtures.
As of press time, organizers had not issued an official statement confirming who will perform the ceremonial kick-off for the opening match. However, an unconfirmed source suggested that Atty./Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah of the Ministry of Youth and Sports could perform the official kick-off, alongside other government officials.
The opening ceremony is also expected to attract lawmakers representing the participating districts, sponsors, district officials, kickball enthusiasts, and other invited guests.
The inaugural Montserrado County Inter-District League is expected to run for approximately one month or longer.
Organizers say the competition will provide a new platform for district-based competition while further promoting the development and popularity of kickball across Montserrado County.
