After a brief period of delay, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) today, Thursday August 20, 2026 released the 2026 exams results, after earlier failing to release the results on August 18 as it had previously told the public.
Female candidates are said to have recorded “a slightly higher pass rate than their male counterparts,” a press release posted on the Information Ministry’s official Facebook page said on Thursday.

WAEC Releases 2026 Examination Results, Female Candidates Record Higher Pass Rate
MONROVIA, LIBERIA: August 20,2026 — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia has released the results of the 2026 examinations, with female candidates recording a slightly higher pass rate than their male counterparts.
According to WAEC Liberia Head, Mr. Dale Gbegbele Gbotoe, a total of 33,741 students, representing 60.37 percent, passed the examination, while 22,146 students, or 39.63 percent, were unsuccessful.
The results show that 17,732 of the 28,826 female candidates who sat the examination passed, representing a 61.51 percent pass rate.
Among the male candidates, 16,009 of the 27,061 who sat the examination passed, representing 59.16 percent.
The figures therefore indicate that female candidates recorded a 2.35 percentage-point higher pass rate than their male counterparts in the 2026 examination.
WAEC Liberia said a total of 57,388 students registered for the 2026 examination, which was administered nationwide from June 1 to June 19, 2026.
The release of the results provides schools, students, parents, and education stakeholders with an opportunity to assess the performance of candidates and identify areas requiring further academic support.
