A former President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) Cllr Frederick Cherue has hailed the nomination of Cllr. Joseph N. Nagbe as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

President Weah this week nominated Cllr. Joseph N. Nagbe, who is currently Senator of Sinoe County, as Associate Justice to replace Retired Justice Philip Banks.

Justice Banks’ retirement at age 70, in accordance with Article 72b of the Liberian Constitution.

“The Chief Justice and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and judges of subordinate courts of record shall be retired at the age of seventy; provided, however, that a justice of judge who has attained that age may continue in office for as long as may be necessary to enable him to render judgement or perform any other judicial duty in regard to proceedings entertained by him before the attained that age,” the 1986 Constitution says.

The former Bar Association’s President and ex-Senator of River Gee County, Cllr. Cherue told the state-owned Liberia Broadcasting System this week that Cllr. Nagbe is an excellent choice for the Bench, as he has the legal experience and character to serve on the Supreme Court Bench.
