TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia- David Farhat, a former member of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Board of Governors and a one-time Finance Minister was today, Wednesday, March 23, 2022 briefly arrested by officers of the Monrovia City Court for alleged theft of property, Criminal Mischief, Menacing harassment and disorderly conduct.
As Garmah Lomo reports, his arrest was based on a complaint filed by private prosecutrix, Margaret Waiwor of the Liberian capital.
But after appearing in court, defendant Farhat was released to his lawyer through a bail bond.
Mr. Farhat, who is a vocal opposition politician, ran to be president of Liberia several years ago during national election.
Details about the case in question will subsequently follow, as the court hearing takes place.
But below is the full text on the writ issued on the former CBL Board member by the Monrovia City Court:
“You are hereby commanded to arrest the living bodies and others to be identified defendant and forthwith bring him before the Monrovia City court, Temple of Justice to answer to the charges of theft of property, criminal mischief, menacing, harassment and disorderly conduct.
Based upon the oath and complaint of the Republic of Liberia by and thru Margret Waiwor, plaintiffs in which it is subsequently alleged as follow to writ.
That on the 7th and 26th days of February A. D. 2022, in the City of Monrovia, Montserrado County Republic of Liberia, the within name defendants being there and then with wicked and criminal intent, connived and conspired went on the property of the private prosecutor and with violence broke and damaged several items on the property which said items include 150,000 pcs movie jackets pcsSamsung and LG phones protector (500ocs) pes DVD movie, 5pcs DVD mass production machines 2,000pcs movie posters and the up rooted roofs of the building, all of the damage being in the tune of US$4,674.00 and that in further thereto the said defendants in the process stole, took and carried away also several items to include five(5) televisions, 2000pcs phone protector, 900 PCs DVD movie, five (50) production machines, five cartons DVD decks, eight bags of assorted clothes, four pairs if slippers, eleven pairs of sneakers, one (42) inches flat screen television one Sony sterior sets, two suits cases of clothes, 300 PCs bulb values, 11pcs square pipes 150pcs quarter rod 24 PCs square bar and one bosh cutting machine, all total US$29,165.00 making a grand total of US$75,914.00 being stolen and damaged by the said defendants from the property of the private prosecutor with the intent to deprive him thereof and damaged his tangible properties while raining insults the defendants made the threatening remarks to harm the private prosecutor.
The alleged act of the defendants being unlawful, illegal, wicked, criminal and intentional is in violation of section 15.5 and 14.25 of the New penal law of Liberia there and then the crime herein the defendant did do and commit.”
