Former Liberian Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has expressed concern over the prevailing atmosphere of unrests being experienced around the country.

Mr. Baoakai, who is political leader of the main opposition Unity party was speaking on the student demonstrations on the campuses of the University of Liberia, protests of sellers at the Omega markets in Paynesville, the recent Alieu Sheriff’s murder case, and the simmering legal battles on the certification of Senator-elect Brownie Samukai, a press statement from his office says.

The former Vice President said he is observing a pattern of events that are signs of instability and an early warning for possible chaos in the country.

He further said that these unfolding events by dissatisfied citizens are a matter of serious concern as they may threaten the peace and security of the nation.

Former VP Boakai is therefore calling on the Government to move swiftly to restore law and order, and at the same time be proactive in addressing the problems that have led to these unrests in the country.

Ambassador Boakai further observed the developing pattern of events currently unfolding in the country, ranging from the demonstrations on the campuses of the university of Liberia, the unrests taking place at the Omega markets in Paynesville and the protests in Lofa bordering the Brownie Samukai certification as signs of instability and chaos and that the Government of Liberia should move swiftly to restore law and order.

In his statement, the Former Vice President Boakai said Liberia is in the middle of health crises with protocols in place; to have dissatisfied citizens protesting makes it a matter of serious health concern and has the propensity to threaten the peace and security of the nation.

The Former Vice President reminds the Government of its obligation to devise means by which peace can be restored to areas and groups affected by these unrests, protests and demonstrations in the country.
