GBARNGA, Liberia- In fulfillment of President George Manneh Weah’s promise to ease the adverse economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on ordinary Liberians, the CDC government’s food stimulus package for the “vulnerable population” has now reached the central Bong County.

This exercise, which is started being rolled out by Caritas Gbarnga in collaboration with the UN World Food Program (WFP) on January 8, 2021 and is being extended to other parts of the county simultaneously.

The stimulus package, which contains several food items like rice, beans and oil, according to Caritas Gbarnga Regional Director for Bong, Nimba and Lofa counties, Anthony Benedict Roberts, will benefit about 44,569 selected households across the county.

Last year, the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) conducted a household registration as part of preparatory measures for the successful distribution of the government humanitarian aid to its citizens to reduce the hardship brought about by the deadly virus.

Of the total number, according to Mr. Roberts, each qualified household stands to benefit from two 25 kilogram bags of rice, ten kilograms of beans and one gallon of oil, among others.

He assured citizens that his institution will ensure the timely and fair distribution of the food ration.

In response, beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent hailed President Weah and described the initiative as the first of its kind in many, many years.

“We are extremely happy for the food support given us by the government of Liberia, let God continue to protect and lead our president, Dr. George Weah who through his good will we are receiving food items in this difficult time,” said Comfort Flomo, a resident of the Kokoyah road community.

Another beneficiary Josephine Cammue of the Dementa road community extended sincere thanks and appreciation to President Weah for fulfilling his promise.

“Let God bless you and all those working with you in this government as we entered this year 2021,”she said.
