The Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinion in collaboration with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has officially launched a nationwide anti-drug awareness campaign, as the number of At-Risk youths in this West African nation reaches one million.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at the William V S Tubman High School in Monrovia on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, LDEA Officer-In-Charge, Fitzgerald Biago, disclosed that study conducted has revealed that the number of at risk youths hook on drugs has increased to over one million all over Liberia.
According to OIC Biago, there are more than 500,000 at risk youths hooked on drugs in Monrovia and its environs alone, with the total number of them nationwide reaching one million.
He disclosed that this year, the LDEA officers will not been seen plenty in the community as before because a vast majority will be deployed at the borders between Liberia and neighboring countries of Guinea, Ivory Coast and the Sierra Leone backed by the latest technology
Appeal to students to serve as anti-drugs ambassadors
LDEA Officer in Charge is therefore, appealing to the student community to serve as ambassadors of the government in combating illicit substances in their respective communities.
The LDEA boss pointed out that the prime motive is to reduce the inflow of dangerous substances from100 to zero percent
Commenting on the rehabilitation, Biago explained that LDEA is appealing to the Liberian government to increase the rehabilitation centers where rehabilitated youths will gain training skills
Remarking earlier, the Chairman of the Center for the Exchange Intellectual Opinion, Mohamed Dukuly, disclosed that CEIO and the LDEA will establishing Anti-Drug Campaign Clubs in schools throughout the country.
The CEIO Chairman added that the center and the LDEA would be working along with existing structures in schools in Montserrado County before extending the exercise to other parts in the country.
According to Mr. Dukuly, the LDEA and CEIO will be making available technical support and training for the anti-drug campaign clubs so as they can also serve as whistle blowers in their communities.
