(Last Updated On: )

HARPER, Liberia- Partners In Healt,h (PIH) Liberia has dedicated a newly-renovated pharmacy at the J.J. Dossen Referral Hospital in the southeastern city of Harper, Maryland County, 579 kilometers from Monrovia.

The dedicatory ceremony was held over the weekend. It brought together senior officials of PIH and administrators of this Referral Hospital.

A communication from Partner In Health says the renovation is part of efforts to address storage constraints faced by the hospital, due to lack of sufficient space that has made it difficult to store drugs and other medical supplies.

PHI stressed the need to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation of the hospital for the public, including the need for expansion for more storage capacity at the facility.

The refurbished annex will be used to store supplies, including health commodities to meet increasing demand at the referral hospital.

Meanwhile, PIH has vowed to also augment service delivery programs at the hospital and improve the quality of care by guaranteeing the availability of medicines, medical supplies, and diagnostics.

Maryland County Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Methodius George, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude to PIH for the partnership that has led to a “significant improvement” of the county’s health system over the years.

Dr. George described PIH as a true partner whose objective is to ensure a transformed health delivery service in the county and Liberia at large, assuring that the newly refurbished facility will be used for its intended purpose.

Recently, Partners In Health with funding from the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) constructed and handed over two cubic yards de Montfort incinerator with a 377.91 square foot shelter that comprised 59.50 square foot mini sorting compartment to the J. J. Dossen Hospital.

It also erected an emergency annex at an estimated cost of US$266,000 in Pleebo, Electoral district#2, Maryland County to improve service delivery.

The facility will expand Pleebo’s capacity to provide health services in a wide range of areas, including hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, HIV, maternal health, and child health, besides emergency needs.

The emergency facility will contain five beds for general admission purposes, a trauma bay, an isolation room, utility rooms, storage area, bathrooms, a reception space, an inpatient ward with eight beds, four for males and four for females, and an expanded out-patient consultation area, including a non-communicable disease clinic with three consultation rooms, among others.
