“Increase Education Budget To Increase Girls’ Enrollment”- NGOs Call On Liberian Gov’t

The head of program at the Paramount young women initiative a non-profit organization, the Educate Her Project, has underscored the importance of implementing said project as a means of increasing girls’ enrollment in schools and why the Education budget should be increased.

The educate her project is on phase 2 which will focus more on policy engagement, policy advocacy and lobby and advocate for budget increment for education.

The project is being funded by GPE through Oxfam IBIs. The educate her project is being implemented by two women lead organizations, paramount Young Women Initiative PAYOWI and Helping our people excel (HOPE)

According to Mrs. Hawa Wilson, the organization (PAYOWI) has been in existence since 2005 and they have been working with different organizations that bear the same vision that is making sure that the national policy on the girls’ education be implemented to it fullest.

Madam Wilson noted that in Liberia, we are good at making policies but when it comes to implementations, we are lacking behind. Outlining the goals of the project she said is all about making sure that girls get access to quality education.

She noted that some years back some young women came together and apply for a grant that enable them to conduct training for educational stakeholders which according to her some educational stakeholders do not know what was in the policy document without even having access to it.

“We are working with the disabled groups, group of 77 among other”. She ended by saying if this project is implemented the community itself will take ownership and help with the implementation.

Madam Wilson made disclosure when she and other coalition members appeared on both OK FM morning Rush and Truth Breakfast radio talk show in recently in Monrovia.
