The International Christians Embassy Jerusalem-Liberia (ICEJ-Liberia) says protests of any form will not be healthy for Liberia, as the economy is struggling.

The group’s warning came ahead of the Council of Patriots (COP) protest they insist on holding today (Monday, January 6, 2020) in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Article 17 of the Liberian constitution of 1886 guarantees citizens the rights to peacefully assemble at all times to petition their government on issues affecting their well-being.

But according to the faith-based organization, Liberia is seriously undergoing lot of challenges confronting the Country and the instability that is threatening the peace Liberians are enjoying noting that protest is not the solutions.

ICEJ – Liberia wants the conflicting parties including the Council of Patriot, the Opposition Bloc and the Government to see reason in sincerely working with ECOWAS, the United Nations, the African Union, European Union, United States, United Kingdom, France, and Sweden, among others to ensure that they come up to a sincere, honest, and God-fearing consensus so as to remedy this entire situation.

After several negotiations between the COP and government by the international Community, both parties have refused to find common ground to avoid the protest.

A release quotes ICEJ-Liberia National Director, Apostle J. Aaron Wright, Sr., as saying; ‘’this peace that we have today was earned by the lives of Liberians, our West African brothers and sisters, and the International Community, therefore, every single Liberian and those residing in Liberia are encouraged to sustain the peace we now have in the County’’.

Apostle Wright, Sr. noted that the world is watching Liberia where after its “1989 civil war” which destroyed the socio – economic fabric of the Nation, noting that now is the time for Liberians to be mindful.

The ICEJ- Liberia through its Apostle is requesting all Liberians to maintain the peace so as to avoid the Country switching to those ugly dark days.

He is also cautioning all parties; that the International Community and Liberians will hold them responsible for anything that will go on the contrary in the Country. ‘’Even though it is the right, as enshrined in the organic law of Liberia, that everyman exercise right to freedom, however, let this be cleared that freedom comes with responsibilities’’ he noted.

Apostle Wright, Sr. “however is encouraging all Liberians and foreign nationals in Liberia to keep their faith, in seeking holistic peaceful co-existence in the Nation.

‘’People be peace abiding, which means that all must speak positively about Liberia, no inflammatory statements that may have the propensity to perpetuate violence in the Country’’ He urged.

The ICEJ-Liberia National Director is also admonishing people from all spectrum of the Liberian society to speak the language of peace and grace to each other and at the same time desist from every act of hatred, gossips, undermining and to remember God’s love and protection over the Nation.

ICEJ-Liberia wants the Government of Liberia to uphold the rule of law by ensuring that the rights of everyone is respected and must focus on reconciling the people of Liberia who have had the scars of 14 years civil unrest.

ICEJ-Liberia is a National Branch of the ICEJ International Headquarters in Jerusalem, Israel. The National Branch which is also known as Embassy is established to implement the Vision, Mission, and Objectives of ICEJ-International.
