A six-man delegation of the International Civil Aviation Organization has begun the audit of the safety measures, equipment and regulations put place for air traffic safety by the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority in the country.
The delegation, which is headed by the ICAO Standard and Procedure Officer for Personnel Licensing, Louis Opoku, will be in the country six days purposely to audit the state safety oversight system in Liberia.
George Weah , has demonstrated the political will by directing Finance Minister , Samuel Tweah and Presidential Affairs Minister Nathaniel McGill, to immediately ensure that the Roberts International Airport is upgraded to international standards by making available the needed funding in few months time .
According to him, the last time Liberia was audited by the ICAO in 2006 and the effective implementation score of this country was below of 20 percent but the minimum percentage of all member-states of the International Civil Aviation Organization is 60 percent.
“As such, Liberia a member-state of the ICAO, has been working diligently in preparing itself for the 2022 audit through the LCAA in order to obtain high score.”
The LCAA Director General maintained that the process of making the money available is on course and in progress
For his part, the head of the six-man delegation of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Louis Opoku, disclosed that auditing the legislation and regulations, aircraft operations, aerodromes and ground kids, accident and incident investigations among others.
According to him, since Liberia does not have branches in other parts of the country the team will restrict its activities to visitation to sites in Monrovia and its environs.
Other members of the ICAO team includes Papa Issa Mbengne, Kayode Ajiboye, Radhouan Aissaoui, and Elisha Omuya.
Other representatives of the LCAA are Moses Weefur, Deputy Director for Technical Services, Augustine Tamba, Director, Air Navigation Service; Captain Reginald Philips, Deputy Director for Flight Safety Standards, among others representing the LCAA in the audit.
