Statements coming out of functionaries in the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Weah in recent times suggest that they are if not afraid but uneasy about chances of winning back six years term in the upcoming 2023 elections.

This is happening even with wrangling within the main opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), who have vowed “to make President Weah a one-term President”.

Now, the leadership of the CDCC has cautioned its members not allow the political debate from the opposition to distract them from the developmental agenda in the country.

In a radio opinion poll conducted by the private owned OK Fm radio station’s “Afternoon Conversation” live phone-in talk show this week, a large majority of the callers who voted in a poll said they would vote for the opposition CPP in the 2023 polls.

January next year will make the CDC government four years at the helm of national leadership, with only two years to remain in power before Liberians decide at the ballot box if they will continue to govern the country.

CDC Chairman, Mulbah Morlu this week pointed out that the opposition is acting as if the presidential election will be in the tomorrow  just to distract them to think that their days of governing the country are over.

Mr. Morlu was speaking when he formally took over the gavel of authority from Representative Thomas Fallah as acting Chairman in Monrovia on Thursday.

The CDC Chairman returned from the United States after spending two months during which he over saw the election of the US Chapter of the party.

CD executives and ordinary partisans at the occasion

The CDC Chairman used the occasion to appeal to all partisans who have deserted the party to return because every partisan is important to the growth and success of the party.

Mr. Morlu apologized to all partisans who felt that the party has forgotten about them and cautioned to return home which is the grassroots party.

Commenting on the upcoming November by-elections in four counties, the CDC Chairman disclosed that conventions have been held for Grand Gedeh County and Jeremiah Sokan emerged as winner and Melvin Salvage is CDC candidate in Bong County.

As for Bomi County, he said that the CDC will not field any candidate while in Nimba County, the party will support the candidate of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction of Senator Prince Johnson

According to him, the CDC will shortly embark on a nationwide tour aimed at strengthening the chapters of the party in the counties in preparation for the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

On the CDC vocational training center, Chairman Morlu disclosed that the party has resolved to construct five other vocational training centers throughout the country

He then thanked Representative Fallah and the party’s stalwarts for maintaining the peace and the work done in the party during the last two months of his tour in the US.
