Joint Security In Liberia Urges Political Parties To Submit Campaign Schedules

Monrovia, Liberia-The Joint Security media team is urging political parties to submit their campaign schedules to ensure a peaceful environment during the elections period.

In just over 30 days, Liberians will be going to polls for presidential and legislative elections on October 10, with 19 presidential candidates challenging incumbent President George Manneh Weah of the ruling CDC party who is making his second term bid. All 73 Representative seats are being contested, while half of the country’s 30-member Senate seats are up for grabs.

Speaking with media at the headquarters of Ministry of Justice, the LNP Spokesman Moses Carter said all political parties and supporters are further urged to submit their campaign schedules to the Joint Security, which will ensure effective security presence for the smooth and peaceful conduct of their campaign rallies.

Police spokesman Moses Carter said the launch of official campaign activities by political parties, duly accredited by the National Elections Commission, the Joint Security cautions all parties and supporters to remain tolerant and desist from infiltrating and interfering with campaign rallies of rival parties.

He added that the Joint Security will not hesitate to arrest, investigate, and forward to court for prosecution anyone who instigates chaos or attempts to undermine the peace and stability of the electoral process.

The Director of Press & Public Affairs of Justice Ministry, Madam Maude M. Somah said the Joint security media relations team that will disseminating information as it relates to happening within the security sector.

Madam Somah further explained that the meeting with political parties and joint security was to build some levels of trust and confidence in the dispense of their duties.

She noted that only the CDC has submitted their campaign schedule since the meeting, adding that, “this is not healthy because schedule with make our work easier,”

The Joint Security media relations team was established to combat spread of misinformation and to inform the public about agendas of the security sector in Liberia.
