The founder and Executive Director of Justice Forum Liberia (JFL), Amb. Maxson Kpakio has frowned on the CDC-led government for not doing enough in fighting against rape and gender based violence in the country.

Speaking via a telephone interview from the United Kingdom, the social justice advocate expressed serious disappointment in the government, stating that despite the mass protest of August, 2020 that led the government of President George Weah to call for a two-day national conference on gender based violence and the President promising the amount of US $2 million, no tangible steps has been taken to robustly handle the situation.

He said that it is frustrating to note that perpetrators of such grave crimes are winning everyday and leaving families struggling for justice, while babies are being killed through rape.

Amb. Kpakio is reminding the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection of its social contract signed with the Liberian people including the most vulnerable in the society, the children. In reiterating his call on the Gender Ministry,

The JFL Executive Director is also calling on the Gender Ministry to give a full evaluation report regarding the $2 million dollars. He stressed further that one and half year is enough for a Ministry to brief her people on progress, a press release from the JFL says.

Meanwhile, the rights advocate, Amb. Kpakio wants Liberian lawmakers to do their due diligence and pay attention to the many voices crying out for justice, accountability and good governance.

He said that by now the men and women at the capitol building should have since invited both the Gender and Justice Ministers to cross examine them regarding the issue of rape and the $2 million dollars.
