A new women organization, the Mandingo Women’s Alliance for Peace and Development (MAWAPAD), has been launched at an elaborate program in Monrovia.
MAWAPD was founded in 2023 to serve as an advocacy mechanism for the cause of Mandingo Women in Liberia and to further serve as a platform to promote peace and unity among Mandingo women and at the same time foster development initiatives.
The ceremony was held recently at the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTV) and coincided with a fundraising rally.
Speaking during the ceremony, Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana commended the women for coming together to promote peace and development and called for a more innovative approach to the empowerment of women in Liberia. She noted that women are the pillar of any society and it was necessary to always provide them the platforms for the voice to be heard. She commended the women for coming together and pledged her support to ensure the realization of their objectives.
For her part, the Executive Director of MAWAPAD, Mrs. Madolly Donzo praised members of the organization for their farsightedness in coming together to ensure peace and unity among women from the Mandingo ethnic group in Liberia. She described MAWAPAD as q great way to create meaningful change and foster a more equitable society. She noted that her organization has already identified some innovative projects, including the construction of a Women Center in District No 2 as well as an advocacy plan for children of the Mandingo ethnic group.
During the program, several personalities, including representatives from the Inspector General of Police, Gregory Coleman, the Office of the Representative of District 2, Hon Sekou Kanneh, the Guinean Embassy made remarks and also pledged the financial support to the program activities of MAWAPAD.
During the program, the organization also gowned a number of personalities, including first lady Kartuma Boakai, IG Gregory Coleman, Press Secretary Fofana, Representative Kanneh, amongst other for their support to women empowerment in Liberia. In a related development, MAWAPAD has commended Hon. Saah Joseph, Senator, Montserrado County, for providing the land for the construction of the Women’s Center.
