VOINJAMA, Liberia- A consignment of High grade processed Marijuana worth nearly US$8,000.00 has been seized by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in the northwestern Lofa County, over 358 kilometers from the Liberian capital, Monrovia, LDEA officials have disclosed.

Detachment told Journalists on Thursday that the 96 kilograms of illicit drugs were
seized on a vehicle at the Kolahun check point with several occupants traveling
on board from Foya City, Lofa County to Monrovia.
The Marijuana was ceased on by the LDEA in
collaboration with officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) assigned
at the Kolahun Check point, after obtaining a
tip off intelligence from Foya City.
Col. Moses Nimely, the Commander of the Drug
Enforcement Agency Lofa County Detachment put the street value of the Drug
ceased is put at seven thousand two hundred ninety six United States dollars ($
7, 296 USD) and that it was on board a Toyota vehicle with plate number #B-10342.
According to Col. Nimely, the driver of the
vehicle, Sekou Sheriff, age 48, who explained that the owner of the bag where
the 96 kilograms of high grade marijuana was placed on his vehicle, escaped
during the search.
He is said to have denied any knowing of the illicit
substance, but promised to help the LDEA in finding the suspect or owner of the
drugs allegedly put on his vehicle.
The LDEA local commander has admonished citizens of
Lofa County to stop accommodating drugs users in their community. He said they
should rather help in providing information to the LDEA, as a means or an
effort of combating Drugs dealers, and traffickers in the County and Liberia at
large.
At the same time, Special agent Nimely however has spoken of logistical constraints facing the LDEA local office.
He named the lack of mobility as a major challenge facing the agency in the county but quickly praised other security apparatus for the level of support and collaboration with the LDEA in the Lofa County.
