TUBMANBURG, Liberia–The Liberia Cashew Development Association, with sponsorship from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, has commenced a three-day financial literacy and business management training for farmers in the western Bomi County.
The training, which began today, Wednesday and will end on April 17, 2026, is being held under the theme “Empowering local farmers for sustainable financial and business management in Cashew value chain,” brought together over thirty smallholder farmers from Bomi and Gbarpolu counties.
Speaking at the start of the engagement, Ambullah Perry, National Vice President for Programs at the Liberia Cashew Development Association, emphasized the importance of financial management knowledge for farmers.
“The training is to provide a comprehensive financial management knowledge to farmers on how to take record of their resources,” he said.
Mr. Perry noted that the training aims to broaden farmers’ perspectives, encouraging them to view agriculture as a business rather than just subsistence farming, nothing that farmers in Cashew production should commercialize their activities to maximize more income.
According to him, the training is expected to equip farmers with the skills needed to manage their resources effectively and make informed decisions about their agricultural activities.
“We want farmers to understand that agriculture is a business, and like any business, it requires proper financial management,” Perry added.
The Liberia Cashew Development Association national vice president for program further disclosed that the organization is working to improve the livelihoods of cashew farmers in Liberia, and the training is a step towards achieving that goal.
The training is part of the FAO’s efforts to support agricultural development in Liberia, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and improving food security.
