Liberia Certified Accountants Institute To Host West Africa Congress

The Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa or ABWA has selected Liberia to host the 2022 ABWA Congress in Liberia through the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA).

The decision to select Liberia was reached at the end of a three-day ABWA governing Council meeting held at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.

Speaking at the climax of the three-day meeting, ABWA President Madam Dame Onome Joy Adewuyi explained that Liberia has met all of the requirements needed to host the event.

According to her LICPA has met all its financial requirement with ABWA to host the event, infrastructure has been review, security, travel arrangements, technical aspect, hotel capacity and other things have all been reviewed, something she said quality the LICPA to host the second edition of the ECOWA ABWA Congress.

” We are here in Liberia to attend the Council meeting which is organized by ABWA and hosted by LICPA was to access the prepareness of LICPA for the biggest project and assignment and that assignment is to host second edition of ECOWAS ABWA Congress in Liberia August 2022. I am also pleased to announce that Liberia has met all requirements and can now host this big event,” she noted.

The ECOWAS ABWA Congress is conducted after every two years for all professional accountancy in West Africa intended to promote the profession, build capacity for its members, to advocate for its members, public and investors by providing independent open in the region.

The purpose of the Association is to develop accountancy in the region and recognize non-governmental accountancy bodies in West African countries and also encouraged to join the association.

She explained that Liberia will benefit from capacity building, the promotion of the Accountants, investment, education and training to grow the Institute and networking will be some of the benefit as the end of the congress.

The President of ABWA however urged Council members and members LICPA to put aside their personal interest and put the interest of the Institute.

The Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants at the dinner night awarded  ABWA President Madam Dame Onome Joy Adewuyi and the President of the Institute of Charter Accountants Ghana for the continue support and assistance to the LICPA.

” I want to use this time to thank the LICPA President and its members for such a recognition. It is really a surprise for me. But i am grateful for such an award,” she concluded.

In remarks, the President of LICPA Victor I. Tawone said the hosting of the Congress in Liberia is a great achievement for his leadership and a boost to the struggling Liberia economy.

“I want to extend thanks and appreciation to the President of ABWA, the President of the Institute of Chater Accountants Ghana, Council members for accepting Liberia request to host ECOWAS ABWA congress in Liberia,” said the LICPA President.

Mr. Tawone noted that at the end of the congress, recommendations will be made on how governance can be improve the public sector in Liberia and the sub- region.

Mr. Tawone at the same time called on past Presidents, council members and members of the Institute for collaborative effect in making the congress a success.

The ECOWAS ABWA congress will bring together over hundred accountants professional from the sub-region in August of 2022.

The Liberian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) was established by an act of the National Legislature in June 2011 to regulate the accounting profession in Liberia.

The LICPA is empowered to set standards, license accounting and assurance practitioners, build capacity and do all things appertaining to regulating the accounting and assurance professions aimed at building a strong and vibrant public accounting sector in the country.
