Stresses Need To Respect Rights Of Persons With Disabilities

The Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in Liberia has officially submitted its report on the rights of persons with Disabilities in Liberia to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of persons in Geneva, Switzerland.

The report was submitted  via zoom presentation by Lovetta Savage representing the deaf and hard hearing community, Abraham Kanneh on behalf of the physical disabilities and Beyan Kota, who represented the virtually impaired people last month.

The disclosure on the presentation of the coalition’s report to the UNCRPD secretariat during a one-day dialogue organized by the National Union  of Organizations of the Disabled in Monrovia recently.

The report center on the rights of the disabled in Liberia centered on key findings including discrimination, accessibilities and accountabilities.

The document stressed the need for Liberia to take concrete actions to repeal or amend the discriminatory legal provisions including constitutional references that equate disability with incapacity.
