MONROVIA– Information Minister Ledgerhood  Rennie has warned against illegal protestation in the aircraft saga involving the People’s Liberation Party and the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) on grounds that the Government of Liberia has to ensure the greater good of the society.

Speaking Thursday at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press conference, Minister Rennie stated that the Government is not interested in stopping anyone from bringing anything as a mode of transportation in the country, but this should be done in conformity with the law.

The MICAT boss added that the leadership of the PLP is trying to create a scenario that does not exist, citing that the best thing to do in the matter is to follow all of the necessary procedures as required by law.

He called on the political institution to abide by the regulatory processes that are involved to ensure that they can travel to any part of the country, citing that the use of aircraft in the country cannot guarantee anybody winning elections in Liberia.

He warned that if anyone gets on the street unlawfully, there are remedies associated with the law, stressing that they will be arrested and sent to court.

At the same, Augustine Tamba, senior management staff at the LCAA clarified that there has not been any request from the PLP for an over-flight and landing permit which, according to him, makes the petitioners lack legal standing to file the remedial Writ of Prohibition.

It can be recalled that on October 5, 2021, the PLP filed a seven-count Writ of Prohibition against the LCAA for voiding an over-flight and landing permit issued the party.

Meanwhile, Tamba added that as far as the LCAA is concerned, the only request from the PLP was air service license, pointing out that the air service license is a completely different instrument from an over-flight and landing permit.
