BARCLAYVILLE, Grand Kru, Liberia – The Ministry of Local government has intensified its decentralization agenda, with the launch of the “Taking the Government to the People” initiative in the southeastern Grand Kru County.

The initiative was officially unveiled on Wednesday by the Acting Minister of Local Government, Hon. Edward K. Mulbah, during an engagement with county authorities, local government officials, traditional leaders, youth and women groups, civil society organizations, and residents of the county.

Speaking at the launch, Acting Minister Mulbah underscored the importance of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and the Local Government Act of 2018, describing them as key pillars in strengthening local governance, improving public service delivery, and ensuring that citizens participate meaningfully in national development.

He also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity, uphold the rule of law, and combat illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse, noting that these priorities remain central to the administration’s broader development strategy.

The launch formed part of the Ministry’s nationwide campaign to foster closer collaboration between the central government and local administrations while enhancing accountability and responsiveness at the county level.

As part of the visit, the Ministry convened the Second Quarter Coordination Meeting with ministries, agencies, and commissions operating in Grand Kru County. The meeting provided a platform for government institutions to review ongoing programs, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and discuss strategies for improving service delivery throughout the county.

Local authorities welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone in Liberia’s decentralization process and an opportunity for citizens to engage directly with government officials on issues affecting their communities.

The “Taking the Government to the People” initiative is expected to be replicated in other counties as the Ministry of Local Government continues its efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and promote inclusive national development.
