Liberia’s Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf has called on Nimbians to prioritize unity and reconciliation in that northeastern County.

Minister Sirleaf said if the people of Nimba are united and reconciled, Liberia’s second most populous County stands to progress and develop.

The Liberia Internal Affairs maintains that Nimba is one of Liberia’s biggest counties which cannot afford to be divided through ethnicity, sectionalism and tribalism.

According to him, what negatively affects the people of Nimba have an effect on the entire country.

As such, Nimbians should hold together as one people, the Internal Affairs Minister advised.

Minister Sirleaf, who appealed to community dwellers most specifically Nimba elders, called on them to be the frontrunner of peace and unity in the county.

He said Nimba gave birth to the then Organization of African Unity (OAU) now the African Union in Liberia, adding that the county and its inhabitants must maintain that unity.

Minister Sirleaf, who spoke as a son of Nimba and an induction officer  at the induction ceremony of Superintendent D. Dorr Cooper and Reginald Mehn County Inspector, stressed that the county greatness has been in promoting agriculture and education  in the past not disunity and divisive politics.

The appointments of Sanniquellie-Mah Administrative District Commissioner and its City Mayor were strongly criticized by many locals in Sanniquellie leading to disunity amongst community residents in the city.

Up to present, Nimba Development Superintendent and Fiscal Affairs Superintendent confirmation are yet to be concluded.

The situation has intensified an air of disagreement and disunity across Nimba.

But the Internal Affairs Minister last Thursday called for unity to prevail in the County.
