The Patient is Jeremiah Gayflor, a Reporter assigned at Voice of Tappita in Lower Nimba County.
Making the disclosure in an interview with Radio Saclepea Saturday, the Assistant Administrator at Jackson F. Doe Referral Hospital said few days ago, Jeremiah visited the hospital when he was showing all signs and symptoms of the virus.
“Jeremiah came to the hospital three days ago and was seen showing almost all the symptoms of the virus. He had one plus malaria, running stomach and fever and we treated him for all the signs he was showing.
According to Mr. Ebenezer Strother, after Jeremiah was attended to and showed sign of improvement, health workers took his specimen and asked him to go back home and quarantine himself, promising to call him when results of his come up.
But according to Mr. Strother, Jeremiah did not stay away from public gathering or quarantine himself as was instructed.
“After we did the test and treated him for all the signs he was showing, we saw great improvement. So we asked him to go home and quarantine himself. But the sad thing is when he went, he did not obey our instruction. We even received report that he was seen on motorbike passing all around in the community” Strother narrated.
A Day later, Results of his test came positive when he had gone to the community and interacted with people even at his job site.
He admitted that the case Management team at the hospital ethically transgressed.
Mr. Strother maintained that due to the influx of patients, the hospital does not the capacity for isolation.
“The community has too much pressure on us. Jackson F. Doe is a major referral hospital. We receive patients from Guinea and Ivory Coast. So we don’t have space for isolation.
He added that one major challenge in the area is the lack of testing center.
According to the JFD Assistant Administrator, the situation has caused health workers to abandon the facility for fear of contracting the virus.
However, he said they are working with local authorities in the area to trace those Jeremiah may have come in contact with.
He revealed that some of the contacts have already reported themselves for early medical care.
How Jeremiah got infested with the virus remains uncertain but he may have come in direct contact with Darlington Gweh, the first Patient who allegedly died of the virus in Nimba County.
Jeremiah is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
