Liberian Lawmaker makes clarion call for National Unity

KAKATA, Liberia- With just a few days to the end of 2019, the Representative of Margibi 5th Electoral District, Clarence G. Gahr has called on Liberians to use the festive season to thrash out their differences and do away with negative thoughts and actions.

Rep. Gahr said Liberians must remove those negative things they have in minds to be able to unite and reflect on how they can enter the New Year (2020), as a “pure God fearing people and ensure that it is a prosperous year”.

Speaking to this Reporter in Weala on Wednesday December 25, 2019; the Lawmaker said Liberians need to come together as leaders and citizens to ensure that the next generation/children see the path they as parents are going on.

“So I am asking everyone, people of District #5, people of Margibi and people of Liberia to come together and move forward,” he added.

Rep. Gahr, “we should use this day to reflect and unite ourselves as a people, this Country has been in a devastating state and time; the 14 years civil crisis if you look at the time of destruction as compare to the time of construction the time of destruction is multiply by more than fifty so we cannot keep going back. Since the war we are just arrive something around sixteen years, fourteen to sixteen it means we are just two years above the time we destroyed.”

He states that there is no one who is fighting can progress; indicating that if Liberians continue fighting then Liberia will remain to where it is and other Countries will be going ahead while Liberians will have differences along the way.

In another development, the Margibi District #5 Lawmaker has outlined his developmental plans for 2020. Hon. Gahr revealed that there are many things his leadership is coming along with from 2019 to 2020.

According to him, one of the things his leadership is coming along with from 2019 to 2020 is the rehabilitation of the Kakata to Gibi Road which is about 42.5km and it will cost more than one million dollars. He averred that it has been approved and published while bidding process is currently ongoing.

The Representative also disclosed that the Darkor Town to Massaquoi Town Road is also one of the projects listed to be rehabilitated in 2020 putting the cost at over three hundred thousand United States dollars.

He also named the Gaylila Public School and the Kollie Dede Town Public School is some of the projects earmarked for implementation in 2020. The Representative intoned that most of these projects will kickoff effective January of 2020  

The Lawmaker furthered that he has been able to lobby through the Government of Liberia and funding for the two road projects have been captured in the national budget while funding for the rest of the projects have been captured in the China Union Social Development Fund.

Meanwhile, Rep. Gahr has described 2019 as a remarkable year negatively on grounds that he had many issues personally, including issues with his health, the District and national concern with the economy of Liberia.

He cataloged the issues of salary delay and the delay of capital project from central government, but said they as leaders have been able to work around the table to ensure that the economy is widen in order to be able to move ahead.

The Margibi County Representative explained that gradually they are seeing the intervention of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the extension of credit facility and the timeliness of salary.
