LMDI Dialogue series sustaining Liberia’s post conflict democracy

GANTA Liberia…Friday 10, 2017– The first in a series of youth- sensitive anti-corruption forums has kicked off in Gbarnga, Bong County

in central Liberia, with the participation of 16 high schools from across Bong, a press release from the Liberia Media for Democratic Initiative (LMDI) has said.

LMDI, the owner and facilitator of THE DIALOGUE and DUCOR DEBATES, the People To People DIALOGUE and DEBATE  Flagship platforms used by a partnership with the Public Trust Media Group (PTMG) to roll out over 50 legislative, presidential and vice presidential debates across Liberia ahead of the October 10, 2017 elections

LMDI’s Director John Kollie says his organization has already launched what he described as a pilot initiative involving the over arching participation in organized debates in schools and communities around the country.

This will directly engage mainly young people about the effects and dangers of corruption to the survival and growth of any nation.

According to the press release, during that gathering, students of the TRIPPLE-A- HIGH SCHOOL debated amongst themselves, corruption as a debilitating force against the growth of any society and nation with Liberia specifically in focus.

Split into two groups to treat topic, “IS CORRUPTION GOOD, IF IT’S ACRUED BENEFITS ARE USED FOR THE SO-CALLED GOOD OF THAT EXPLOITED SOCIETY?), the students debated and concluded that corruption, whether its benefits are used for so called humanitarian purposes, destroys the victims;  government or people.

Graced by at least 600 of their counterparts from their school and other institutions, the TRIPPLE-A- debaters effectively propounded to defend arguments on the two sides.

In continuation of the youth sensitive anti corruption series, the LMDI is embarking on a weeklong tour of Nimba County on a trail to conduct several of similar forums.

As ever the deliberations from the series of forums and subsequent ones in the coming weeks and months are being  broadcast on our partner network 45 National and Rural Community Radios around Liberia.

The series of youth and students interactive is being supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP under the Strengthen Transparency Accountability, Oversight and Participation Small Grant 2017 Programme (STAOP), the release says.

This LMDI led to a series of forums under THE DIALOGUE and DUCOR DEBATES  is seeking to raise public and stakeholders awareness through targeted media and community outreach blended  initiatives around transparency, Accountability and Integrity Issues across Liberia.
